Book Review: Devout by Takerra Allen

Neeka is a college freshman, away from home for the first time, meets and falls in love with Denny “D Rock” Graham. He’s a 27 year old kingpin of the city of Newark, that sees what he wants and does not know the meaning of NO. Their love story is a whirlwind and definitely one for the history books. Neeka’s father does not approve of the relationship and forces her to make a choice…one that will stay with her for a long time.
This book had me on such an emotional rollercoaster, because it was so personal to me. The similarities between Neeka and myself are overwhelming and often moved me to tears. At one point, I had to put the book done and deal with the inner girl and her need to not disappoint her “Daddy.” The biological one is hopefully smiling down from Heaven and the other, WELL…

I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading the sequel ‘Too Devout.’ by author @bytakerraallen, definitely earned the 💎💎💎💎💎 that I have given it, as well as a spot on my Favorite Authors list. I applaud her for addressing an issue that is considered taboo in our community…mental illness.
