Book Review: The Book Of Harlan by Bernice L McFadden

Where do I begin? This amazing book began in Macon, Georgia and traveled six decades, ending in Brooklyn, New York. Harlan Elliott is a jazz musician who was blessed to have some of the greats at his house for Sunday dinner. An opportunity presented itself and he goes to Paris for a gig… and doesn’t return for five years. Harlan has experienced some things in his young life that are unbelievable, but throughout it all…he survives.
I learned so much in this book, especially the fact that African Americans were held in German Concentration Camps. It reminded me of why I fell in love with reading as a pre-teen. I lost plenty of sleep, which I don’t regret, because I just had to see what the characters were up to next. The writing style of @bernicemcfadden puts me in the mind of some of the greats, including James Baldwin, Maya Angelou, Alice Walker, Claude Brown, and Richard Wright…just to name a few.

I highly recommend this 💎💎💎💎💎 page turner…especially if you like historical fiction. I’m looking forward to reading more books by this author.
