Book Review: Mustard Seed by Laila Ibrahim

Set in the post Civil War years, this sequel to “Yellow Crocus” finds two families traveling from Ohio to Virginia for different reasons, yet actually find out that their lives are intertwined.

Lisbeth Johnson has received a letter informing her that her father is dying, and she is invited to come back to the home she ran away from. With her children in tow, she embarks on a journey that will change their lives forever.

Jordan Freedman is accompanying her mother and brother on a rescue mission. Her mother Mattie is determined to convince her cousin Sallie to join them in Ohio…where she can enjoy her remaining days in freedom. What they experience is a downright travesty.

I didn’t realize how much I missed historical fiction until I picked this book up. This 💎💎💎💎💎 read by Laila Ibrahim is a cross between Jubilee by Margaret Walker and Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup, and I truly enjoyed it.
