Book Review: Wench by Dolen Perkins-Valdez

Set in the 1850ā€™s, every Summer, Southern slave owners embark upon a journey to Tawawa House,a vacation resort, located in Ohio. It is here that they bring their mistresses along, and cavort as a couple. This is the story of Lizzie, Reenie, Sweet and Mawu. They bonded over their dreams and tragedies. A sudden fire begins a domino effect of bad things, that ultimately lead to one lonesome dove.

The treatment of the women Tawawa House was the total opposite of what they each received at home, and the background story to each couple is unique and interesting. What actually becomes of Tawawa is probably the best part.

I enjoyed this šŸ’ŽšŸ’ŽšŸ’ŽšŸ’ŽšŸ’Ž read by @dolenperkinsvaldez, and highly recommend it to anyone who loves historical fiction. Iā€™m definitely looking forward to reading more from this author.
