Book 2 of the Black series, provides an in depth look into the younger brother of Nat Hope Turner aka Black. Captured, then rescued,along with a woman named Anna, Elbert is on a mission to punish those who made the mistake of letting him live.

The brothers join forces with a known ally, to bring the captors down, and save a few others in the process. We also get a glimpse of the daily life at Fort Independence.

I loved this book for several reasons. First, every woman wants and needs a man like Elbert…beast to the outside world, but lover and protector to Anna. You can clearly see how love transformed him into a gentle giant. Second, the plot of the story was riveting and help my attention. Lastly, @joan.vassar has a phenomenal way with with words. She gives you just enough history to teach, with the anticipation of more.
