Book 3 of the Black series reunites the readers with residents of Fort Independence and introduces a host of others. Life was good, and then an unexpected guest arrives with a message from the Queen of England. The men set out on a mission that may cost them their lives.
Unsure of their future, each man leaves something for their women to remember them by…literally.
The main character, James, struggles with his past, as he desperately tries to move on to the future. Once again, love plays a significant role in the healing.
Although, the focus the placed on James, the breakout character stole my heart. Born a slave, offspring of the slave owner, and an overseer of his people, Jeremiah aka the black cracker, struggles with his identity. I hate that I loved him and his brother as much as I did, but their relationship was unique and genuine. It was an example of many relationships that go unmentioned of that time.
To sum it up, this book displayed the strength of the black man, and the power of the black woman. I highly recommend this 💎💎💎💎💎by @joan.vassar.
