*Book of the Day*

Today’s book comes from most underrated female author (in my opinion) in the African-American literary journey today.

As a visual reader, I was watching this urban soap opera play across the screen…episode by episode. Relationships are compromised by lust, jealousy, deceit and murder. I lost sleep behind this book, suffered from a book hangover and left wanting more!

Book Review: Black and Ugly As Ever by T. Styles

Parade Knight and her friends are back…minus Sky, and a lot has changed. Parade is engaged to the person responsible for her best friend’s death (while being in love with her ex); Miss Wayne is living with his boyfriend (Keith the cop), while continuing his criminal career; and Daffany is battling an addiction.

This book was just as good as book 1, but there were quite a few errors. For that reason alone, I’m giving it 💎💎💎💎. It has surely earned a spot on my “Best of 2019…Series Edition.” Once again, my hat’s off to @authortstyles.

Now, I’m off to check out the spin-off…”Miss Wayne and the Queens of DC.”

Book Review: My Voice by Angie Martinez

Angie Martinez aka “The Voice of New York’s” love of hip-hop started when she was just a young girl. She would be outside, some would say a word, and she would rehearse a line of a popular song involving that word. She later went on to shadow her mother to the radio station where she worked. As the years went by, Angie would intern and work her way up the airwaves, including Hot 97, where she remained for about 20 years. It was here, where she began to develop lifelong friendships with artists such as Jay-Z, Fat Joe, Mary J Blige, Pharrell, and of course Q-Tip (just didn’t realize they used to date as well). She also talks about how difficult it was to walk away, in order to work for the competition…Power 105.1, and how her career has blossomed since then.

In this memoir, @angiemartinez talks about what is now known as the “East Coast vs West Coast Beef” and how Tupac flew her out to California, in order to give his account, how great he treated her and the reason why. She also makes mention of previous boyfriends being somewhat bothered by her being in an industry that is surrounded by so many men.

Love, financial instability and personal milestones also grace d the pages of this book. I’m so glad I finally decided to pick it and read it, and quickly passed it on to my son, who showed an interest in it as well. If you are into memoirs, then I highly recommend this 💎💎💎💎💎 read.
